The constellation Andromeda takes the idea of the chained maiden from Greek mythology. She is left bound and defenseless against a rock until a hero saves her. Women are often depicted this way; weak, vulnerable, and unable to help themselves. This Andromeda reminds us that women are often perceived this way by society, and in turn by ourselves. We begin to believe that we cannot or should not, and the chains get tighter. Thankfully, we are often our own champions. We figure out that those chains are made of talk and ignorance; those chains are weak and easily tossed aside. We realize that we were strong enough all along.

Andromeda’s lines show her inner turmoil. Her thoughts and her independence swirl about frantically inside; a powerful vortex trapped within. In contrast, she is delicately posed within her thin bindings.
